Jack Peterson, Professor Emeritus of Architectural design, has served as Director of the School of Architecture at Arizona State University; he also held the position of Graduate Coordinator for the College and was Professor of Architecture for thirty-five years in the College of Architecture, and served on the Board of Regents at California Lutheran University. He graduated with a Master of Architecture degree with Special Honors from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, a degree in Architecture from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and philosophy from St. Olaf College.
His private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona was all-inclusive, involving both residential and commercial design; it also included many high-tech industrial facilities both in-state and throughout the U.S. He received many accolades and has been honored with “Awards for Excellence in Architecture” by the American Institute of Architecture. His designs for Sperry Space Systems were cited for a joint commendation for “Environmental Excellence”.
A resident of Paradise Valley for 36 years, he was a major influence in the plans to transform Indian Bend from the concrete ditch plans to the beautiful chain of parks, golf courses, and water features we see today. After contributing a full lifetime of exemplary service in the educational and architectural professions, Jack continues the pursuit of creativity in his paintings and sketches.
As this art exhibit clearly reveals, Jack Peterson’s vocabulary draws upon three sources to express his ideas: verbal, the skillful use of fine lines and brilliant colors, and his unique professional ability to think and create spatially. Utilizing these various techniques in his toolbox, he has illustrated memorable places and spaces in his travels for your visual and intellectual pleasure.
